The End

And so this blog comes to an end. I need more time for other things in my life, and for blogging, my two original blogs get preference. In addition, statistics show not much response on this blog and the parallel one on classical music. So be it. Bye.

Catapult: Hit the big time

The third time Catapult features in the blog, this time with their debut which was a solid hit and quite rightly so. Their initial hits has stood the test of time remarkably well.

Dimitri van Toren: Een lied voor kinderen

During the time this blog was on hold, we have lost another singer from the seventies (in addition to Albert West and Drs. P. more recently): Dimitri van Toren passed away in May. Rest in peace. Here we have his second hit, Een lied voor kinderen, not bad, although not of the quality of his debut which appeared in the blog earlier.

Earth and Fire: Maybe tomorrow maybe tonight

The 6th time Earth and Fire feature in the blog, this time with one of their very best singles (and actually the first one that I listened to way back in 1973...).

Drs. P.: Veerpont

Earlier last week, we lost Albert West far too young (65), this weekend Drs. P. passed away at the more acceptable age of 95. Rest in peace. This was his first of two hits (De Dodenrit has appeared in the blog before), and is still a fun song to listen to.

Focus: Hocus Pocus (2)

After yesterday's post about Hocus Pocus, here we have the same song in a somewhat different version, that became a hit two years later. Confusing perhaps, but so be it.

Lucifer: House for sale

The third time that Lucifer feature in the blog, now with their first and greatest hit - which is also their best song in my opinion. A beautiful ballad about a couple breaking up, sung excellently by Margriet Eshuis.

Henk Wijngaard: Met de vlam in de pijp

The first (and most successful) hit of Henk Wijngaard from Stadskanaal. In three decades, he managed 20 top40 hits, five of them in the 70s. This trucker song is not as bad as many hits in the Dutch language of that time, and mildly enjoyable in a campy way. A low 3/6.

Albert West: Simone

The blog resumes with the third time that Albert West is featured - also because he is at the moment in hospital on intensive care after a bicycle accident. Let's wish him a speedy recovery*. Simone was not as big a hit as some of its predecessors (even though it was an alarmschijf, the pick of the week of Radio Veronica), but remains a nice song to hear once in a while.

* edit: sadly he passed away a few days later. RIP.
